air treatment
Compressed air contains solid, liquid or gaseous contaminants that, if not properly treated, can damage both machineries and end products. Contamination can be due to environmental factors, to the compressor or to air tubes.
The treatment of compressor outgoing air starts with filters, that shall be placed before the compressor and vary depending on air intake particles, air contamination level, weather conditions, compressor model and use (if continuous or discontinuous), permitted pressure drop and the specific applications of compressed air.
An aftercooler must be installed after the compressor in order to reduce the content of water and oil vapors by cooling the air, condensing and separating water vapor. The aftercooler is combined with condensate separator and drain.
Finally an air dryer is required because, despite the condensate separator, compressor outgoing air is saturated with water vapor and contains condensate, which increases during cooling due to air expansion. Condensate is extremely harmful for machines, processes as well as end products and must therefore be eliminated as much as possible from compressed air.

Aftercoolers |
Aftercoolers can be installed between one compression stage and the other (intermediary) or after the last compression stage (final) and are divided in two categories: forced air and water. Hot air arriving to the aftercooler has a high humidity level and exchanges heat with the cooling fluid in order to cool down. An efficient and properly dimensioned final aftercooler can condensate 60% of intake air vapor.
RRW Water Aftercoolers Final water aftercoolers are made of two elements: a highly efficient air/water shell in tube with minor capacity loss which cools the air, and a cyclone condensate separator which separates and eliminates condensed water. Suitable to several different functions, RACPID water aftercoolers can be vertically assembled upon request.
RRA Forced Air Refrigerators Thanks to the powerful electric fans and to the generously dimensioned finned-tube battery it is possible to cool compressed air from 120°C down to an output temperature superior to ambient one by 9°C only. Capacity losses are very low and condensate is discharged by means of the condensate separator fit outside the battery. |
Refrigerant Dryers |
Cycling refrigerant dryers have been developed to efficiently remove compressed air condensation with compact overall dimensions.
RD An adjustable electronic controller changes fan speed in order to guarantee a constant dew point in any operating situation. RD dryers are additionally equipped with a wide range of parameters and alarms (high temperature, low temperature, temperature probe failure, etc.). RD dryers with 600 m3/h airflow or more are perfect to remove compressed air humidity in high capacity industrial plants. Designed to facilitate inspection and maintenance, they are equipped with an electronic controller for the bypass of hot gas and of the necessary devices that guarantee perfect operation also in the most critical working conditions.
RD-ES RD-ES dryers are indicated for applications requiring intermittent use or partial load of compressed air. New electronic board with glycol control probe guarantees high efficiency avoiding freezing phenomenon. Control of variable speed fan to achieve the best performances in any working condition.
RD-L A microprocessor changes fan speed in order to guarantee a constant dew point in any operating situation. RD dryers are additionally equipped with a wide range of parameters and alarms (high temperature, low temperature, temperature probe failure, etc.) controllable via standard digital display. Electronic condensate drain is standard.

Adsorption Dryers |
Adsorption dryers use the physical – chemical properties of the desiccant materials to adsorb the humidity present in the compressed air. Essential for industrial applications that require high levels of dryness.
RDA 40 Compressed air humidity is initially held by the absorbing substance contained inside the tanks and then eliminated during regeneration; while dried and filtered compressed air goes to the distribution network. regeneration takes place making little dried air counter-current go to regeneration tank. Dryer duration and efficacy depend on intake contaminants removal. For this reason it is highly recommended to install a coalescing pre-filter upstream and a post-filter downstream to remove dust.
